Mission: "Enable our customers to have the freedom to pay with crypto around the world."
Summary
The project is to create a new mobile application that allows foreign users to pay in local currency through MercadoPago QR codes or CVU bank transfers using their crypto funds. The deposit/payment to the merchant would be made by the CryptoPagos company, paying with funds in the country where it is headquartered (in this example, Argentina). CryptoPagos would charge the total amount plus an additional percentage to the customer who initiated the operation. The merchant side does not have to do anything in particular, just accept payments by QR or alias (bank transfers).
Who is this for?
The client: is someone who has cryptocurrencies, but does not have pesos nor can have digital wallets with Argentine pesos (MercadoPago, Ualá, etc.). They have been living in the country for more than 1 month without being a resident.
- Digital nomads
- Exchange students
- Expats, immigrants
Use Case
From the client's side (foreigner in Buenos Aires):
- Opens the application.
- Scans the merchant's QR code (e.g., the merchant receives via Mercado Pago).
- The app verifies that the wallet has enough USDT funds.
- The client is informed that the payment has been completed.
- The cryptocurrency amount plus the commission percentage is deducted from their wallet.
- The merchant receives ARS pesos to their Mercado Pago account.
Possible Competitors
- Talo, IbexPay, and DepayApp. They have the same objective but take a completely opposite approach: to get each of the merchants to accept crypto as a payment method. Their difficulty lies in onboarding each merchant to accept payments with their wallet.
- Lemon, FiWind, and other crypto wallets. They allow payments to merchants using the interoperable network of QRs or reloadable credit cards and debiting the user's crypto funds, but they are not cross-border, meaning they only work locally.
- Bitso is the only one that allows its Mexican, Brazilian, and Colombian users to pay Mercado Pago QRs in Argentina.
